School Headteachers Association for Development of Education (SHADE), is a Voluntary non-government organization formed by the headteachers from the public, private and Aga Khan                                                                                                                 Education Services Pakistan (AKESP) who were the course participants of the First-Advanced Diploma in School Management (ADISM 1997-98) a pioneer course conducted by the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) in July 98.

 

 

  AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION

 

¨       To offer a platform enabling the Headteachers for sharing their professional knowledge, experiences and challenges related to their role with their counter-parts in the country.

 

¨       To develop human and other resources required for the promotion of school management as an area of study and practices that can contribute towards the development of education in the country.

 

¨       To help the headteachers in mobilizing for their professional development in the area of school management, leadership and school improvement / effectiveness.

 

¨      To provide professional support to Headteachers for creating a knowledge-based school management system that can help them develop coherent policies and programmes for their school improvement and effectiveness.

 

 

¨       To extend professional support to headteachers for developing school-based action research project(s) in the area of school improvement / management / leadership.

 

¨       To organize regional / national or international conferences / seminars / workshops etc. on the issues of school management practices and their implications for educational development.

 

¨       To establish appropriate communication channels with the head teachers for sharing information on school improvement / professional development activities etc.

 

SHADE ACTIVITIES

 

 

     Shade has mainly focused on the continuous professional development of the headteachers through workshops and discussions. SHADE workshops are conducted bimonthly. Since its birth till January 2005, SHADE has successfully conducted 36 workshops that are well received by the participants.

 

  In addition 6 professional dialogue sessions with renowned educationists have also been held for the professional development of the members.

 

 

*  SHADE also provides a platform to the headteachers to disseminate and share the research findings for the professional development of its members. As action research is a mandatory component of the Advanced Diploma in School Management, the members found this forum a relevant scaffold to share. So far many research papers are read and discussed.

 

 

  SHADE members have also been participating and presenting papers in international conference such as International Congress for School Improvement and Effectiveness (ICSIE).

 

 

Who can become a member?

 

ã      A practicing headteachers/principal, educational manager or a senior head of department of a school.

 

ã      Who agrees to abide by the resolution and bi-laws of the association and supports the aims and objects of the association.

 

ã      Who agrees to pay the prescribed Membership Fee Rs. 200/= which may be revised / reviewed from time to time by the Executive Committee.
