Pedagogy of Ethics and Values in the 21st Century
Introduction
Education is a moral enterprise underpinned by cultural norms, beliefs and values. Hence, stakeholders constantly find themselves at the crossroads wondering which is the ‘right’ path that would lead toward the maximization of the basic goals of teaching and learning for the holistic development of future generations. The choices regarding the what, why and how of teaching and learning present ethical dilemmas involving value judgments making education a moral endeavor where stakeholders are constantly negotiating and re-negotiating the boundaries of ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ in education and for education. The basic premise of the Association for Promoting Ethics in Education (APEE) is that we, the stakeholders in education, need to recognize the implications of these ethical dilemmas for the whole process of teaching and learning in order to look for workable resolutions. For this reason, the Association for Promoting Ethics in Education (APEE) becomes a platform for collaborative actions and reflections.
